Favorite pens, including fountain pens, erasers, paper clips, or favorite watches and glasses.
Although they are an important presence that colors our daily lives, they come in a wide variety of forms, and before we know it, their number increases, and on our desks we tend to become travelers (?) with no fixed address.
The theme that started this tray production was ``If only these adorable, yet difficult-to-handle, amorphous items could have a comfortable place to belong.''
The first thing to consider was the height of the tray.
There have been many flat leather trays, but from the standpoint of ease of use,I thought that if I added more height, I could slide things sideways and take them out smoothly without having to lift them vertically.
It was a bit difficult to create the height using only leather material, so I immediately conveyed this idea to a furniture craftsman who made a number of prototypes.
The gentle curves on the surface are the result of the craftsman's skill, and are also evidence of trial and error.
In addition to the samples, the wooden bases for the actual production are also made from leftover parts from the furniture making process.
After the base, it's time for the leather.
Attaching the leather, which is originally a flat surface, to the wooden base in 3D was more difficult than I had imagined, but the good thing about it was that there were no corners and a soft and beautiful expression was created.
The included mini-tray is removable, and we aimed for a shape that fits intuitively and beautifully as a temporary storage place for small items such as caps, clips, and pins.
In addition, to avoid damaging your precious watches and expensive pens, we have applied luxurious leather covering not only the main body but also the round mini-tray so that you can feel the warmth and gentleness the moment you hold it in your hands.
However, during the sample making and product development process, we did not actually set strict size settings or create rules.
This is because the items on the desk were so diverse and varied in shape and size.
By taking a loose approach and thinking, ``At least this is what I want,'' we ended up with a ``white space'' that could be used in unlimited ways depending on the idea.
Now that I think about it, this is a very good point.
For fountain pen users, it serves as a luxury bed for their precious pens. For glasses users, it can be used as a place to store your glasses while sleeping.
This is how we created the composite tray, which is not just a storage case, but has an infinite range of uses by freely combining two parts to suit each lifestyle.
It would be great if you could use it as a presence that brightens up your daily scenery and enriches your daily life.
